According to the Associated Pressthe Cross County Sheriff's Department booked Clarke into jail on Wednesday night. He faces charges of improper passing, possession of a controlled substance, fleeing and exceeding the speed limit, and trafficking a controlled substance.

Clarke was released from jail at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cross County Sheriff's Department did not provide further details about the arrest or the controlled substance that the NBA player allegedly possessed.

"I'm aware of the report, but don't have any comments," Grizzlies coach Tuomas Iisalo said when asked about Clarke's arrest.

The former first-round pick has spent seven seasons with the Grizzlies after originally being selected by the Thunder. He earned All-Rookie honors in 2019 after appearing in 58 games and making 61.8% of his attempted shots. He made 75.9% of his attempted free throws.

Clarke has been a significant contributor over the years while suiting up for at least 56 games in five of his professional seasons, but he has only appeared in two games for the Grizzlies this season due to multiple injuries.

He played just over 16 minutes against the Timberwolves and nearly four minutes against the Wizards in December. He made three of his nine attempted shots.

Clarke had to undergo knee surgery early in the season, which kept him on the bench. He returned in late 2025, but did not remain active. He sustained an ankle injury, which took him back off the court.

The NBA team has provided updates about Clarke's continued rehabilitation. The team said in February that he was not yet ready to return to the court. In March, the Grizzlies said that he would be reevaluated at a later date.

The team ultimately announced on March 24 that Clarke would continue his rehabilitation but that he would miss the rest of the season.
