Philadelphia 76ers point guard Cameron Payne was arrested Friday morning in Arizona, as he allegedly gave a false report to law enforcement.

As reported by TMZ, at 2:44 am, Payne and another person were stopped by police after someone in the area had dialed 911. According to the Scottsdale Police Department, subsequent to responding to the disturbance, authorities came in contact with the NBA player, who they questioned.
That is to say, the details of the encounter are unknown at this time, but Payne was arrested on the scene. He was given charges of refusal to provide a truthful name, as well as another count of giving a false report to police.
The 29-year-old was then booked into jail, but has since been released. The police report did not include any further information on the incident.
Payne used to live in the area, as he was a member of the Phoenix Suns from 2019-2023. Over the course of his career, the Memphis native has played in a total of 58 NBA playoff games, and was a key contributor as a backup point guard for the Suns when they reached the 2021 Finals.
In Philadelphia, Payne appeared in 31 games and averaged 9.3 points (41.3% FG; 38.2% 3PT), 1.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 19.4 minutes per game.
