For those unfamiliar, Running Point follows the Los Angeles Waves. The Gordon family runs this professional basketball team, but they shake up the roster for an unexpected reason.
President Cam (Justin Theroux) goes to rehab in the first season, so he names his sister Isla Gordon (Hudson) as the acting president. He puts her in charge instead of general manager Ness Gordon (Scott MacArthur) or chief financial officer Sandy Gordon (Drew Tarver).
"I love the sibling dynamic in this. Family is everything to me," Hudson said about the series, per Netflix. "It's a comedy about a dysfunctional family, but at the core of it, they can't live without each other."
The first season of this series follows Isla as she learns the ins and outs of running a professional basketball team. She deals with the big personalities on the team, which include star player Marcus Winfield (Toby Sandeman) and point guard Travis Bugg (Chet Hanks). She ultimately takes the Waves to the playoffs.
The second season features more changes for the basketball team. Cam returns from rehab early and begins to mess with the new-look front office. Additionally, the Waves hire a new coach, played by Ray Romano.
Running Point adds more actors and characters for the second season. Some examples include a new addition to the team played by Jake Picking (Top Gun: Maverick, Hollywood), a potential coaching hire played by Adam DiMarco (The White Lotus, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen), and a member of a rival family played by Oliver Hudson (Merry Little Ex-Mas, Going Greek, Walk of Shame).
The list of additions also includes some prominent personalities in cameo roles. Actor Macaulay Culkin returns, as does stylist Law Roach. Jake from State Farm also appears.
