According to a report ESPN's Shams Charania, center Mitchell Robinson suffered a right broken pinkie. This puts his status in doubt as the team does not yet have a concrete timetable for his return.
However, the big man has undergone surgery to repair this broken pinkie. Sources told Charania that Robinson plans to play in the first game of the NBA Finals.
This injury follows a Game 4 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday in which Robinson played 18 minutes. He had eight points and 10 rebounds. He has averaged 5.3 points and 5.5 rebounds throughout the playoffs as the Knicks have won 11 straight games to reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999.
The Knicks will face off with either the Thunder or the Spurs out of the Western Conference. These two teams are set to play in Game 7 of the series on Saturday night. The winner will advance to the NBA Finals.
Robinson previously revealed that he had stepped away from his social media platforms. He said he had deleted all of his apps until he could get back to himself.
"I had a very upsetting experience a few days ago," Robinson wrote before stepping away. "I'm not gonna go into detail about it just gonna focus on the playoffs and myself. I know some of you have called and texted and it popped up green. That's because I got a new number.
"My mental health is not the best right now but I am fighting to get back on track while playing on the biggest stage in the World, the Eastern Conference finals. Thank you all for the love and support you bring, it will never go unnoticed. I truly appreciate y'all."
