Not Surprisingly, Knicks And Sixers Fans Tangle In Philly

The Philadelphia 76ers ownership team bought 2,000 tickets to try to keep fans of the New York Knicks out of their home arena for Game 6 of their first-round NBA playoff matchup.

Well, guess what? It didn't work. Knicks fans still showed up and the Sixers were still eliminated.

Translation: Boy, that sure backfired.

And here's something else that's not a shocker — some fans of both teams exchanged words, and perhaps some jabs, during and after the game as tensions arose. The Sixers' season came to a disappointing close, while the Knicks moved on, and man oh man, smack was talked.

That's just the way it goes in sports these days. Actually, it's always been going on, but thank heavens, now we are carrying phones to record it all and social media to post it, making it all seem new to the world.

Truth is, it's not. Today's flareups aren't any worse than they were at other sporting events 100 years ago. In fact, they may not be nearly as bad, considering all the extra security in place.

And the video shows that security did indeed step in when two fans — reportedly one who rooted for the Sixers, the other the Knicks — decided to try to throw down after Game 6. We can also safely say alcohol was likely involved.

But things never got too out of control, again, as security stepped in and whisked one would-be combatant away.

And a look at the video shows the most exciting part of the flareup was the hundreds of people holding their phones to record the incident in an effort to go viral. Some succeeded.

But hey, that's a lot more than we can say for the 76ers.
