Report: Mystery 'contender' trying to pry another All-Star away from the Warriors next summer

Could they really make this happen?

The Golden State Warriors haven't even started their 2016-17 revenge tour and people are already speculating if they can keep their core together. Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant are signed for next year at the very least, but the lone man not guaranteed to stay with the team is league MVP Steph Curry.

Bleacher Report's Ric Bucher appeared on Colin Cowherd's show and said that Kevin Durant potentially taking some of Curry's shot would lead him to sign with someone else.

Of course Bucher didn't say who this mystery team is and wouldn't even give an indication of which conference they are in. Curry is currently on a mega discounted contract worth $44 million over four years —- thanks to some untimely ankle injuries —- with this season being the last on the contract. He'll be an unrestricted free agent and if he does feel threatened by Durant's shooting then he might go on his way and become the top option somewhere else.

Some guesses of mine include the Spurs, the Thunder, the hometown Hornets and Boston Celtics. All four teams have the cap space to pull off the move next summer and all could be considered "contenders" with the talent currently on their rosters. They all have good complementary role players and some stars in their own right so Curry wouldn't be completely starting over with whatever team he signs with next summer.

However, this does have to be taken with a grain of salt since it's coming from Ric Bucher who has been known to get things wrong quite often. It might have also been a leak from a team to see if they could sew some dissent among the Warriors in hopes of making their dreams come true and allow Curry to become available to sign next summer.
