The Pelicans will likely have to give up several picks and assets to make the trade work. Tyreke Evans would likely be included in the deal, and they'd have to hope the Hawks would be willing to take on a longer contract or two.
The Hawks are currently 20-16 on the year, which would be good for the 4-seed in the Eastern Conference. The Pelicans are 14-23, but only two games behind the Sacramento Kings for the 8-seed. New Orleans general manager Dell Demps has been under scrutiny for the team's lack of success in recent seasons, so he might be more likely to try for a big trade before the Feb. 23 deadline.
