"I don't like athletes or superstars because they're a-holes," Shaq told the New York Post. He added that he "denounced" himself from being a celebrity about a decade ago because celebrities are "weird."
Shaq prefers to just be a man of the people when he is out and about. This includes when he visits tm:rw, a tech superstore in Times Square, New York City.
"We come in here, we take care of business," Shaq told The Post. "...We sign autographs. We treat people with honor and respect... I want to be a regular guy."
Shaq may be a regular person in how he acts and treats others, but his life is by no means ordinary. He is one of the most famous people in the world due to his chosen career.
The 7-foot-1-inch man spent 19 years playing in the NBA for multiple teams, most notably the Lakers. He achieved incredible success while earning All-Star honors 15 times, NBA Finals MVP three times, and league MVP once.
He won four NBA titles and earned a spot on the 75th Anniversary team. He also earned a spot in the Hall of Fame.
Of course, Shaq has done so much more than simply achieve basketball and then walk away from the sport. He has invested in countless businesses and real estate properties while building out his portfolio, and he has worked as an analyst for NBA studio shows.
He even became a famous DJ, who has performed at countless events. This includes after a NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway in 2023.
Shaq has also highlighted the importance of education. He has earned three degrees, which includes a PhD in education. He currently pursues his master's in liberal arts.
