San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is off to a hot start this season, so hot that it's put him in some elite company.
Early in the first quarter of the 49ers matchup with the Cleveland Browns, McCaffrey snagged a screen pass from Brock Purdy and took it 13 yards for a touchdown. Not only did the score give the 49ers an early 7-0 lead, but it put McCaffrey in the record books.
The touchdown made it 15 straight games that McCaffrey scored a touchdown. That streak is now tied for the second longest in NFL history as the 49ers running back joins O.J. Simpson and John Riggins as players to score in 15 straight games.

McCaffrey still has a few weeks to go before he can break the consecutive scoring record, which is held by Lenny Moore with 17 straight games with a score.
With Simpson, Riggins and Moore all being in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, McCaffrey has certainly put himself in some elite company during this stretch. The 27-year-old has some more work to do before he can join these greats in the Hall of Fame, but if he keeps up this scoring pace, he may just get there.
McCaffrey has found the fountain of youth since being traded to the 49ers last season. In 20 games with his new squad, McCaffrey has scored 22 total touchdowns.
The McCaffrey trade between the 49ers and Carolina Panthers is approaching its one-year anniversary. On Oct. 20, 2022, the Panthers sent the former first-round pick to San Francisco for a 2023 second, third and fourth-round pick, along with a 2024 fifth-round pick.
Since McCaffrey joined the 49ers, the team has only lost one regular season game—the first game with McCaffrey on the roster—a 44-23 loss to Kansas City. Since that loss in Week 7 last year, the 49ers are 15-0 in the regular season with McCaffrey in the lineup.
