While NFL owners met this week, the 49ers were represented by CEO Al Guido. York stayed away after his August arrest in an Ohio prostitution sting — and after TMZ released the body-cam video of that arrest.
Commissioner Roger Goodell said the matter is being reviewed under the personal conduct policy. He did not announce discipline.
The facts of the case are already public. Police in East Palestine, Ohio, said York answered an undercover ad, used the alias "Joe," and agreed to pay $160 for an hour of sexual activity. He drove a rental to a mobile home park. Officers cuffed him at the scene. Body-cam shows him in a Yankees shirt and basketball shorts, asking what he did wrong, then saying he was "just driving."
Prosecutors reduced the original prostitution charge. York pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools, as in the phone he used to set up the meeting. He paid fines and received credit for time served.
The legal case moved fast. The embarrassment did not.
One league insider told Sports Business Journal that York has effectively "self-suspended," and that the shame — not the court file — is the bigger problem right now.
Billionaire owner. Rural Ohio trailer park. Instagram ad. One hundred and sixty dollars. That combination does not fade on its own.
