The Pittsburgh Steelers upgraded at quarterback this offseason. At least, that's what the brochure said.

But so far in training camp, the big shiny Aaron Rodgers update hasn't quite finished downloading.
According to SteelerNation.com's Christopher Barbre, there are a few bugs in the system — mainly a lack of deep shots and a whole lot of checkdowns. Yes, the same cautionary tale we've seen in the late chapters of Rodgers' NFL career is once again creeping in.
And the highly anticipated Rodgers-to-DK Metcalf connection? Not exactly lighting up the practice field. The chemistry just isn't there yet, and the pecking order behind Metcalf is still a mystery, as relayed by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. No clear No. 2 has emerged, which leaves the Steelers' offense feeling more "work in progress" than "ready to roll."
To be fair, Pittsburgh's defense is no joke. So if anyone's going to make Rodgers sharpen the sword, it's that unit. That's the hope, anyway.
The countdown is on. The Steelers open the season with a trip to MetLife Stadium to face the New York Jets in what's shaping up to be a spicy Week 1 showdown. After all, the Jets are Rodgers' ex. But unless things start to click soon, the return might feel less like a statement and more like a shrug.
Rodgers and Metcalf were supposed to flip the script in Pittsburgh. So far, the sequel feels a lot like the original.
They've still got time, but the clock is ticking.
