Adam Schefter maintains what the Patriots would get as a "minimum" for Jimmy Garoppolo

Most people expect the quarterback's price to be quite high

On a recent appearance on the Kirk & Callahan show in Boston, ESPN Insider Adam Schefter said the New England Patriots will get a "minimum of a first round pick" for backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

Schefter thinks the Patriots will receive a first and fourth-round pick for Garoppolo, which is the same price the Minnesota Vikings paid for Sam Bradford earlier this season.

Trent Dilfer suggested the Patriots were using Schefter to drive up the price for Tom Brady's backup, but Schefter vehemently disagreed.

"I honestly have no idea," Schefter said. "I can tell you this: Nobody in New England has ever told me a certain price that they would want, or are expecting on Jimmy Garoppolo. I can promise you that. The New England brass is not using me to get a price out on Jimmy Garoppolo. That is a fact that we can dispel right there. That is factually incorrect... I will promise you that they are getting minimum of a first-round pick for Jimmy Garoppolo. Promise you."

Schefter went on to defend his stance and said he would be closer than Dilfer on the trade price.

"I didn't report that they were getting a 1 and 4," he said. "I gave a statement on my football sentiment and my football instincts and my football knowledge. Again, that's what I believe will ultimately be the starting price. That doesn't meant it will be. I could be wrong. I can tell you this, I am going to be closer than Trent Dilfer is on that and I might be low on the 1 and a 4."

He backed up his stance by saying there are plenty of teams in need of a quarterback, and if Sam Bradford is worth that trade, then so is Garoppolo. It will be interesting to see how close Schefter is, or if the Pats trade Garoppolo at all this offseason,
