A Bills tradition continues with annual call for snow shovelers

Ah, winter in New York. Once again, the time has come for fans of the Buffalo Bills to answer the call and shovel some snow before a late season game.

The Bills, who host the rival Jets on Sunday afternoon, put out the call on New Year's Day. The team asked for anyone over the age of 18 who would be interested in shoveling some snow to show up at Highmark Stadium on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026.

The team asked for those interested fans to sign a Google Docs form so that those in charge of the operation could make a daily schedule. The Bills also promised some gifts and compensation for those willing to put in some work.

Each person who gets work shoveling snow for the AFC East team will receive $20 an hour as payment. They will also receive food and hot beverages, courtesy of the Bills.

"Prospective snow shovelers are asked to dress appropriately for the weather (gloves, scarves, hats, coats, boots, etc.)," the Bills said. "To celebrate the fans making the Final Regular Season game at Highmark Stadium possible, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield will be providing the first 500 shovelers with Highmark Stadium branded winter gloves.

"Bud Light and the Bills will be giving away winter hats to select 21+ shovelers ahead of the 'Blizzard Brew' limited-edition beer made with purified snow being available during Sunday's game at Highmark Stadium. Fans may bring their own shovels, but shovels will be provided by the Bills, ABM, and Bud Light."

The Bills calling for people to shovel snow has become an annual tradition over the years. Each winter, fans have shown up to Highmark Stadium to help prepare for NFL games. However, this weekend's event will be bittersweet considering this is the final home game for this stadium.

The AFC East team will bring back the iconic red helmets for the first time since 2010 as they close out the final home game at this open-air stadium. Next season, they will move into New Highmark Stadium, which sits across the street from the current venue.

Of course, New Highmark Stadium will still feature an open-air design, meaning that the annual snow shoveling tradition should continue well into the future.
