The moment occurred during the first half of Sunday's game, which both teams needed to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Metcalf stood by the stands, seemingly having a conversation with a Lions fan in a blue wig. The CBS Sports cameras then showed Metcalf striking the fan in the shoulder before walking away.

"Oh my gosh. Oh my goodness," analyst Tony Romo said while watching the replay of this incident. Play-by-play man Jim Nantz also weighed in, saying, "That's not going to have great consequences for the Steelers."
The CBS Sports broadcast crew continued discussing this striking incident after coming back from the commercial break. Rules analyst Gene Steratore also got involved and said that the officials couldn't do anything to Metcalf and the Steelers after this incident if they didn't see it happen.
However, Steratore received confirmation that the NFL would handle this matter as the week continued. They would receive the footage from the game and determine the punishment.
"DK Metcalf just got baited into a suspension/lawsuit by a dude in a $6 wig," one NFL fan posted after seeing the replay of the incident. Many others weighed in and made their predictions about the punishment heading Metcalf's way. Some pointed to a fine while many others said the receiver would have a week off without pay.
The former Ole Miss receiver only registered one reception for five yards before striking the Lions fan. He then continued to struggle as the first half continued.
Metcalf bobbled and dropped one pass from Aaron Rodgers with under two minutes remaining in the first half. He then received a penalty for offensive pass interference with just over one minute remaining in the half.
