According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the dynamic running back is taking his talents to the Detroit Lions. Pacheco will join forces with running back Jahmyr Gibbs while giving quarterback Jared Goff another weapon out of the backfield.

This move follows the Detroit Lions sending another member of the backfield to the AFC South. The team traded David Montgomery to the Houston Texans in exchange for guard Juice Scruggs, a fourth-round pick, and a seventh-round pick. Montgomery had delivered 33 rushing touchdowns while working in tandem with Gibbs.

Pacheco, a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs. He became an immediate contributor for the team while appearing in all 17 games as a rookie and starting 11.

Pacheco rushed for 830 yards and five touchdowns. He then delivered 197 yards and a touchdown during the playoffs before capping off the season as a Super Bowl champion.

One year later, the former Rutgers product posted career highs during the regular season with 935 yards and seven touchdowns. He added 244 yards and two touchdowns as a receiving option.

Pacheco then led the NFL with 81 carries for 313 yards and three touchdowns during the playoffs. Once again, he ended the season as a champion.

Pacheco only appeared in seven games in 2024 due to injuries. He posted a career-low 310 rushing yards and one touchdown. Last season, he started 12 games and appeared in 13 but only accounted for 462 yards and a score. Veteran Kareem Hunt led the team with 611 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.

This move to the Lions will not put Pacheco back into a starting role. Gibbs is the driving force in that offense. However, the two-time Super Bowl champion can bring his violent running style to an offense and serve as that change of pace for Dan Campbell's offense.
