Last week, three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL during a loss to the rival Los Angeles Chargers. This week, backup-turned-starter Gardner Minshew suffered a knee injury during a loss to the Tennessee Titans.

The Chiefs did not immediately confirm that the veteran journeyman had torn his ACL. Sources indicated to NFL insider Ian Rapoport that the team believed this to be the case. Minshew will undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the injury.

This injury occurred during the first half of the 26-9 loss. Minshew hurt his left knee, but he did not immediately exit the game. He continued to play while trying to move the Chiefs offense down the field.

However, the veteran ultimately headed to the locker room as the first half continued. He ended his start with three completions on eight attempts for 15 yards.

With Minshew exiting the game, former seventh-round pick Chris Oladokun took over under center. He finished the game while completing 11 of his 16 attempted passes for 111 yards. He did not throw a touchdown or an interception. He also rushed twice for seven yards.

This time under center marked Oladokun's first regular-season NFL action since 2024 when he attempted one rush for five yards against the Broncos.

The former South Dakota State quarterback will likely be under the spotlight as the Chiefs aim to close out the season. The AFC West team only has two games remaining after being eliminated from the playoffs, the first of which will take place on Christmas night.

The Broncos will travel to Arrowhead Stadium for a rivalry game, albeit one that will lack its usual luster. The Chiefs will then close out the season with a game against the Raiders, who remain in contention for the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
