Jon Gruden's son, Deuce, has kicked off the offseason in a big way. He has set a powerlifting record for his weight class.

The former NFL head coach posted a video on Sunday that showed Deuce pulling off the feat. The young man had a barbell in his hands as he performed a bench press at the Bench Press nationals in Las Vegas, Nevada. He successfully lifted the bar to full extension and then racked it.

Deuce stood up and waited for a ruling. Ultimately, the judges determined that he had nailed the lift at 219.5 kilograms (483.91 pounds). This secured a national championship and a national record.

Why did this bench press look so easy? According to Gruden, his son has a legitimate reason for being so strong. He posted a photo from the archives showing Deuce "doing push-ups" at 9 months old.

The bottom of the photo features a message in permanent marker, which said, "(second) people ask us why he's so strong."

Gruden's son is a longtime employee of the Las Vegas Raiders. He has served as the team's strength and conditioning assistant for 10 years while working with all position groups and focusing on strength conditioning. Additionally, Deuce and the larger athletic training staff have helped players work their way back from injuries.

Deuce, 32, competed in the Raw division at Bench Press Nationals. This meant that he had minimum equipment, relying mostly on safety gear such as wrist straps. The equipped division, for comparison, has specialized gear such as the bench shirt that stores energy and helps the athlete push the bar away from their chest.

With Gruden's son securing the national championship and a national record, he can potentially look forward to other events on the bench press schedule.

The Bench Press Nationals served as a qualifier for two different events — Bench Press Worlds in Kielce, Poland, and Bench Press North Americans in Belize City, Belize.
