This decision came after the Raiders secured the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, which will likely go to selecting the quarterback of the future.

"The Las Vegas Raiders have relieved Pete Carroll of his duties as head coach," owner Mark Davis said in a Monday statement. "We appreciate and wish him and his family all the best. Moving forward, General Manager John Spytek will lead all football operations in close collaboration with Tom Brady, including the search for the club's next head coach.

"Together, they will guide football decisions with a shared focus on leadership, culture, and alignment with the organization's long-term vision and goals."

Carroll, who won a Super Bowl in 14 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, came to Las Vegas after one season away from the sidelines. He took over the Silver and Black and brought in his coordinators and his quarterback, Geno Smith.

The season started with a win over the New England Patriots, but it quickly went downhill from that point. The Raiders lost 14 of the next 15 games, fired special teams coordinator Tom McMahon on Nov. 7, and fired offensive coordinator Chip Kelly on Nov. 24.

Despite the changes, Smith still struggled under center while throwing a league-high 17 interceptions and only 19 touchdowns. He only threw for 3,025 yards, marking a major drop from his time with the Seahawks when he surpassed 4,200 yards twice in three seasons.

The offense ranked 32nd in the NFL in total yards while the defense ranked 14th. The offense failed to score a single point in two games, and it never scored 30 or more points. The Raiders allowed opponents to score 30 points or more in eight games and 40 points or more in two games.

The Raiders also seemingly angered defender Maxx Crosby by shutting him down with two games remaining in the season due to a knee injury.

Carroll, 74, has now posted an overall record of 173-134-1 as a head coach of the Jets, Patriots, Seahawks, and Raiders. The overwhelming majority of his success came in the Pacific Northwest as the Seahawks reached the playoffs 10 times in 14 seasons.

The Raiders will now move forward and try to find the head coach who can get the team back into playoff contention in an extremely competitive AFC West. The team will also try to find a quarterback who can provide the consistency that has been absent since Derek Carr's departure after the 2022 season.

Who will take over as head coach? According to a report from NBC Sports' Mike Florio, Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores could be Brady's focus this offseason. Additionally, Brady could look to former Giants head coach Brian Daboll to serve as offensive coordinator.
