The AFC West team provided the update on Tuesday evening. The team did not provide much information in its statement.
"The Baltimore Ravens have backed out of our trade agreement for Maxx Crosby," the statement said. "We will have no further comment at this time."
The Raiders and Ravens had an agreement in place on March 6. The Ravens agreed to send two first-round picks — one this season and one in 2027 — in exchange for the five-time Pro Bowl defender who has piled up 69.5 career sacks.
This deal could not become official until the afternoon of March 11, which marks the start of the new league year. Time remained for the trade to fall apart, which is what occurred.
According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, a source said that a medical reason caused the trade to fall through. He said that these situations are subjective and that all doctors do not agree on specific situations. Ian Rapoport added that the Ravens were not ready to take on the risks associated with Crosby's knee.
Crosby had a procedure done on his knee after the Raiders' season ended. The original report was that this was a meniscus trim, but sources later told NFL insiders that Crosby had a mensicus repair.
This updated information took the recovery timeline from weeks to months. Crosby also noted on his podcast The Rush with Maxx Crosby that he knew he would be back in June.
With the trade falling through, the question now turns to other teams. The Cowboys had attempted to swing a deal for Crosby, but they did not have the same level of offer. This could present an opportunity for the Cowboys to get back into the picture, and it could present an opportunity for other teams to attempt to work out a deal.
