The former MLB pitcher — and father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomesappeared in court on Monday after being arrested on Feb. 2. An ankle monitor he had been wearing at the time read that he had consumed alcohol on New Year's Day, a violation of his five-year parole following an arrest for felony DWI.

Mahomes denied these allegations. If he had been found guilty, he would have faced up to 10 years in prison. However, two urine tests in early January revealed no trace of alcohol in his system. A tested hair follicle also read negative.

The judge allowed Mahomes to be released from custody on Monday, but he extended the probation from five to seven years. The judge ordered him to complete a 16-week outpatient program. The judge also sentenced him to 30 days in jail but gave him credit for time served.

The original arrest in 2024, just days before the Chiefs defeated the 49ers in the Super Bowl. Authorities arrested him in Tyler, Texas, on a charge of DWI for the third time or more. His second DWI arrest came in 2018. He served 40 days in jail on weekends in 2019 and 2020.

The elder Mahomes made his MLB debut in 1992 at the age of 21. He suited up for the Minnesota Twins and kicked off a career that lasted 11 seasons.

Mahomes spent just over four seasons with the Minnesota Twins and part of two seasons with the Boston Red Sox. He also played two seasons for the New York Mets, one season for the Texas Rangers, one season for the Chicago Cubs, and one season for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He went 42-39 as a starting pitcher while posting 452 strikeouts. He only registered one balk during his career.
