Veteran backup Gardner Minshew came on in relief of Richardson.
Prior to getting injured, Richardson logged three carries for 35 yards with a pair of scores, while also completing 6-of-t10 passes for 56 yards, in his second career start. Sunday's game featured a matchup between Richardson and Houston Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, who was chosen No. 2 overall in this spring's draft.
However, Richardson's availability for Sunday's game was in a bit of doubt before it even began, after suffering a knee injury that led to him appearing on the Colts' injury report leading up to the contest.
Early in Sunday's Week 2 showdown, Richardson flashed elite athleticism on his pair of runs, with the Colts jumping out to an early lead on the road.
Richardson is a source of significant optimism for Indianapolis, who drafted the 21-year-old phenom No. 4 overall, out of the University of Florida, in April's NFL Draft. In his first two career starts, Richardson has passed for 223 yards with one touchdown to one interception, while adding 75 rushing yards with three touchdowns.
Pairing Richardson with head coach Shane Steichen, who helped oversee Jalen Hurts' ascension into the MVP conversation last season — as the Eagles' offensive coordinator, is a duo the Colts hope pays significant dividends in the wide open and new-look AFC South.
The Colts will now have to wait when it comes to Richardson as he suffered this concussion.
