According to the Associated Press, U.S. Marshals took Brown into custody in Dubai. They then flew him to Essex County, New Jersey, where he remains pending extradition to Miami. The outlet also noted that a second-degree attempted murder charge has a maximum 15-year prison sentence. Brown could also receive up to a $10,000 fine if convicted.

The charge stems from a shooting outside of an amateur boxing event in Miami on May 16. The former NFL player is accused of grabbing a handgun from a security staff member and firing two shots at a man with whom he had a fist fight earlier in the night. The AP says that the victim told investigators that one of the bullets grazed his neck.

Brown spent 12 years playing in the NFL after landing with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a sixth-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. He spent nine seasons in Pittsburgh, where he caught 837 passes for 11,207 yards and 74 touchdowns. He earned seven trips to the Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro honors four times.

Brown departed the Steelers after the 2018 season, and he joined the Raiders. He showed up to training camp in a hot air balloon, but he never suited up for the Silver and Black due to issues with frostbitten feet and disagreements over the NFL's required helmet.

The veteran receiver ultimately landed with the Patriots after a brief, troubled stint with the Raiders, which included a verbal altercation with then-general manager Mike Mayock. He spent one season in New England where he appeared in eight games and caught four passes.

He then closed out his career with two seasons in Tampa Bay. He appeared in 15 games and caught 87 passes for 1,028 yards and eight touchdowns. He ended his time with the team in unexpected fashion as he removed his jersey and shoulder pads midway through a game against the Jets. He then left the field while giving the peace sign to the crowd.

Brown has a history of legal issues away from the football field. The list includes throwing furniture out of a 14th-floor apartment and nearly hitting an infant; allegations of sexual assault from a trainer; an arrest warrant for failure to pay child support; and felony battery and burglary charges after an incident involving the driver of a moving truck
