Ex-Super Bowl Champ Bashaud Breeland Arrested For Second Time In Year

Former NFL cornerback Bashaud Breeland was arrested for the second time in less than a year in Charlotte, per a report from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. The incident, which occurred in the 14000 block of Murfield Court, involved a drug-related call, leading officers to discover narcotics on the premises.

According to the police report, officers attempted to make an arrest but were assaulted in the process. Breeland, a native of Allendale, S.C., and former Clemson player was subsequently jailed on Sunday morning. The charges he faces include felony drug charges, assaulting a government official, resisting an officer, and injury to personal property.

Among the items found by officers were a Nike shoebox and "Space Rock" bottles, containing what appeared to be marijuana. Additionally, officers discovered other narcotics, including a plastic bag with mushrooms, five promethazine hydrochloride bottles, and a dihydrocodeine bitartrate bottle. Promethazine hydrochloride is a sedative commonly used to treat motion sickness, while dihydrocodeine bitartrate is a synthetic opioid analgesic for treating moderate to severe pain.

Firearms were also reportedly found on the premises, including a PSA Rock, a Ruger LCP MAX 380 Auto, and a Raven 25 Auto. The officers also reported damage to an earpiece and a CMPD uniform shirt.

This recent arrest follows Breeland's previous legal issues in August, when he faced charges related to possessing a stolen car, stolen firearm, and drugs. The outcome of that case, which included the discovery of a stolen Mercedes-Benz SUV, 62 grams of suspected illegal mushrooms, more than five pounds of marijuana, and eight guns, is still pending in Mecklenburg County Superior Court.

Breeland, who played eight seasons in the NFL and won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020, had been seeking another chance with the Panthers after a failed physical nullified his previous deal with the team in 2018. Despite his aspirations, these legal challenges are highly likely to complicate his professional future.
