Bears' Douglas Coleman III Removed From Game On Stretcher, Hospitalized

Chicago Bears defensive back Douglas Coleman III was removed from the field on a stretcher and was hospitalized after making a tackle during Thursday night's 34-21 NFL preseason win over the host Kansas City Chiefs. The injury occurred on the first play from scrimmage in the second half.

Coleman was moving and being evaluated, reports say.

Per ESPN:

"As players from both teams gathered around him on the field, Coleman was placed by medical personnel on a stabilizing board and then a stretcher. His face mask was removed but not his helmet. Then he was put into the back of a Kansas City Fire Department ambulance and taken from the field.

"Speaking after the game, Bears coach Matt Eberflus said Coleman did have movement in his limbs, even giving a thumbs-up to players and coaches before he was carted off the field. He was taken to a local hospital for additional evaluation."

Coleman, 26, came to the Bears in free agency after spending the past two seasons with the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League. The Texas Tech product went undrafted in 2020 before signing with the Denver Broncos.

"When I was on the field, over there on the Chiefs sideline, he was moving his limbs and gave us a thumbs-up," Eberflus said, "so that was good to see. I don't have anything more. He's at the hospital right now being evaluated."

Coleman appeared in 17 games with Ottawa last season, recording 60 tackles, four sacks, three interceptions and both interception and fumble returns for touchdowns.
