According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Chicago Bears are sending a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 first-round pick, and a 2027 fourth-round pick to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round pick.
This deal gives the rebuilding Titans significant draft capital so that the team can continue improving the roster to compete in the AFC South. The Titans are 1-6 and will not contend for a spot in the playoffs.
It also gives the Bears a key cog on the defensive line, one who can potentially help shut down the offenses in Green Bay and Detroit. The Bears are 5-2 and second in the NFC North behind the 6-0 Vikings, so the team can still contend for the NFC North crown.
The Bears are currently eighth in the NFL in total defense while allowing an average of 313.4 yards per game. This team is 18th in pass defense while allowing 225.9 yards per game, but it is third in rush defense while allowing 87.6 yards per game.
Simmons, 29, entered the NFL as the 19th overall pick in the 2019 Draft. He has spent his entire career in Tennessee while starting 104 of the 106 games in which he has played.
Simmons, who only played in nine games as a rookie, became an important part of the Titans line as he gained experience in the NFL. He also earned four trips to the Pro Bowl while piling up 414 total tackles, 72 tackles for a loss, 46.5 sacks, 96 quarterback hits, and nine forced fumbles.
Last season, Simmons earned First-Team All-Pro honors while delivering a career year. He forced a career-high three fumbles and accounted for 11 sacks. He also notched a safety for the first time in his career.
The veteran NFL defender will now head north to the Windy City to continue his career. He will join a team primed for a playoff run, and he will try to reach the Super Bowl for the first time in his career.
