Anonymous Bears Player Takes Parting Shot at Matt Eberflus
But the Thanksgiving Day matchup between the Lions and Bears ended in controversy. With a chance to go for the win, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus elected not call timeout and time expired as they suffered their sixth-straight loss. That was the final nail in the coffin to Eberflus' coaching tenure in Chicago as he was relieved of his duties the following day.
Following his termination, one anonymous Bears player told The Athletic that Eberflus poor time management has been the catalyst for too many of their losses this season. And ultimately, it was time for a change.
"We felt as players it's been too many instances where we fought our way back into games to lose because of bad time management and decision-making," one unnamed player said.
Lions Star Reacts to George Pickens' Comments
After a career season in 2023, Lions star Amon Ra St. Brown has quickly risen to the top of the NFL's wide receiver rankings. However some believe that Brown's success is not necessarily the result of his individual talent, but rather the Lions' offensive schemes.
Earlier this season, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens seemed to agree with that notion, referring to the Lions star as a "slot merchant." Some perceived that to be a shot at St. Brown, but the Lions star said that he did not take any offense to Pickens' comments.
"I honestly don't even think it was a stray. I feel like a lot of people just saw the clip, and saw a short part of it. I don't think he meant anything bad," St. Brown said.
"He was just saying if you have a good offensive coordinator, which we do have. Ben's great. I do feel like he's special at what he does, he's able to get guys in spots to make plays. It's a credit to Ben, and everyone on our staff. I don't think he meant any malintent. He just saying what an offensive coordinator (can) make plays."
