Botched snap dooms Cardinals, gives Patriots first win without Brady this season

This was such a brutal way to lose.

The New England Patriots were huge underdogs against the Arizona Cardinals in the Grand Canyon State. That didn't stop second-year quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo from leading his team to a 23-21 win in primetime. He got some help from the Cardinals though as they botched the snap on a potential game-winning field goal.

Chandler Catanzaro was already an iffy kicker from beyond 45 yards going 1-of-4 last season and this particular kick was 47 yards. He needed a good hold and a perfect snap to really have a shot at knocking that kick through the uprights. He did not get any of that though as shanked it left.

Here's a closer look at the hold he was dealing with:

Despite a phenomenal game by Larry Fitzgerald —- he had two touchdowns, eight receptions and 81 yards —- the Cards couldn't get the win and now the Patriots are a game up on everyone in the AFC East as the Bills, Jets and Dolphins all lost on Sunday. Tom Brady might realistically have a chance at coming back from his suspension with a 4-0 record and a 12-game sprint to the end of the season.
