The experts might not be giving Cowboys rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott great odds to win the NFL's MVP award, but the folks over at Bovada are beginning to lean that way.
The online sportsbook recently updated its MVP odds and have Elliott as the current favorite to take home the hardware at +250, ahead of Tom Brady (+275), Matt Ryan (+500), Russell Wilson (+900), Derek Carr (+1000), and Dak Prescott (+1000).
The award more often than not goes to the NFL's best quarterback and has 32 out of the 49 years since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970—-which goes a long way in explaining why Elliott is only just beginning to be seen as a serious contender for the honor. And his performance against the Steelers Sunday (21 carries for 114 yards, 2 catches for 95 yards and 1 touchdown) only cemented the possibility.

If it takes a running back ding something spectacular to win the MVP, which has generally been the case, Elliott's knocking on that door. With seven games left on the schedule, he's already rushed for 1,005 yards, and at 111.7 yards per outing, he's on pace to put up 1,786 yards, falling just short of Eric Dickerson's 1983 rookie rushing record of 1,808 yards.
