Move over, Joe Montana and Steve Young.
Sunday afternoon against the Washington Commanders, Brock Purdy set the San Francisco 49ers single-season passing yards record, for a franchise with a pair of Hall of Fame quarterbacks who came before him.
By passing for 230 yards with two touchdowns in Washington, Purdy upped his yardage total this season to 4,280, surpassing the record previously held by Jeff Garcia, who passed for 4,278 yards during the 2000 campaign.

Thanks in part to the explosive weapons around him, such as MVP candidate Christian McCaffrey at running back, All-Pro tight end George Kittle, and dynamic wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, Purdy set the record in his 16th start of the season, matching Garcia's games played the year he set the record.
Now that Purdy set the record, there's a legitimate chance that head coach Kyle Shanahan will rest him in the regular season finale, with no pressure to go for the record.
Given the playmaking ability of Purdy's supporting cast, and his ability to facilitate big plays down the field, there's a chance that Purdy could etch his name on several records for the franchise with such a storied quarterback history.
Purdy's feat is all the more impressive because of the fact that he was chosen with the final selection in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Mr. Irrelevant, no longer, Purday played his way into the NFL MVP conversation during much of the 2023 season, and helped clinch the 49ers the No. 1 seed in the NFC Playoffs with Sunday's victory.
Purdy and the 49ers close out the regular season at home against the Los Angeles Rams, but will have a bye week to open the postseason and homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.
