That is, reportedly a police officer has since come out and given background details about the situation, which occurred at the 'East arrivals level' of the Denver international airport around 2:09 PM on Sunday.
Per TMZ, "the cop says he told Wilhoite he could not leave his 2021 Ford Bronco unattended, to which Wilhoite allegedly replied, 'shut the f*** up' two times."
Upon showing his frustration, 38-year-old Wilhoite bumped his chest into him and afterwards the cop shoved back. Then in escalation, Wilhoite gave him a mean right hook to his jaw, forcing the officer to the ground.
The cop was able to use a taser on Wilhoite, however, after the effects wore off, he got in his car and drove away.
The cop was pretty beat up over the incident as he reported injuries to his knees, right jaw and left wrist.
Wilhoite was arrested Sunday night, and was booked at a Downtown Detention Center; he is set to appear in court Monday at 10:30 am.
The Broncos organization released a statement (per 9News) "We are aware of a situation involving Michael Wilhoite that occurred Sunday and are in the process of gathering more information."
In view of his NFL career, after going undrafted, Wilhoite played linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers (2012-2016), before joining the Seattle Seahawks in 2017 prior to retiring.
He racked up 231 tackles, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles in 79 games played.
Wilhoite was previously a part of the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Chargers coaching staffs, before now joining the Broncos in 2023.
