Browns' Kevin Stefanski says Shedeur Sanders not getting starter reps 'right now'

Shedeur Sanders is still waiting his turn in Cleveland. Head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Wednesday that the rookie quarterback isn't getting any first-team reps right now, as the Browns focus on developing fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel.

"With a young quarterback, with Dillon starting, you want to make sure he gets a lot of reps," Stefanski told reporters. "Different when you have a veteran like Joe, but still getting reps in a bunch of periods."

That veteran would be Joe Flacco, who began the year as Cleveland's starter before the team turned the page to Gabriel. Back then, Gabriel got some work with the starters during practice weeks. But now that he's QB1, there's little room for anyone else to step in — even a name as familiar as Sanders.

It's a natural progression for the Browns, who want Gabriel to keep gaining experience and rhythm with the offense. Still, it's hard not to notice the curiosity surrounding Sanders, the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders and one of the most talked-about rookies in football.

Sanders may not be seeing starter snaps yet, but his time could come if Gabriel stumbles or injuries strike. For now, though, Cleveland is sticking with its plan — and keeping one of the league's buzziest young quarterbacks on standby.
