These days, there's only bad news surrounding the Cleveland Browns. And when not totally bad, definitely not great.

The latest? Star running back Nick Chubb, recovering from a season-ending knee injury, has made it through another week of limited practices. But he won't be activated for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters. Chubb's presence in practice is a positive sign, but Stefanski emphasized they're taking it slow with their offensive centerpiece.
Meanwhile, the Browns have gotten off to a less-than-riveting start this NFL season, sitting at 1-4 and with a quarterback in Deshaun Watson who's been a football disaster.
"I'm not going to get into how close he is," Stefanski said of Chubb. "He's getting better every day, and we're focused on what Nick wants to accomplish. We'll keep taking it day by day."
Chubb's absence continues to loom large for the Browns' offense. Before his injury in Week 2 last season, Chubb was in full beast mode, racking up 170 yards on just 28 carries. Since then, Cleveland's run game has lacked the same punch, though Stefanski and company remain optimistic about his eventual return.
On the bright side, the Browns will get a boost along the offensive line. Veteran tackle Jack Conklin is set to be active, though Stefanski didn't clarify exactly how much he'll play. Cleveland also welcomes back rookie defensive tackle Michael Hall Jr., who's set to be activated following a suspension.
But the injury list is still significant. Cornerback Denzel Ward, dealing with a hamstring injury, was able to practice Friday, though he remains questionable for Sunday. The Browns will monitor his status closely before making a final call. Defensive tackle Maurice Hurst (ankle), linebacker Mohamoud Diabate (hip), and linebacker Jordan Hicks (elbow/triceps) are also listed as questionable.
In terms of players who won't suit up, the list is long. Safety Grant Delpit (concussion), center Ethan Pocic (knee), safety Ronnie Hickman (ankle), offensive tackle James Hudson (shoulder), and running back Nyheim Hines (knee) have all been ruled out. That leaves the Browns shorthanded as they head into a tough test against a high-powered Eagles squad.
It's clear Cleveland will need all hands on deck if they hope to slow down Philadelphia, but for now, the wait continues for Chubb's return.
