The Cleveland Browns and Las Vegas Raiders have both conducted preliminary research on possible leadership moves, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Appearing Tuesday on Kevin Clark's podcast, Fowler said neither organization has committed to making a change, but both remain in the mix as the offseason approaches.

"There are some 50-50s out there," Fowler said. "Cleveland, Las Vegas. Those are two places that have done preliminary research for a potential move. That doesn't mean they're locked in or that they've decided yet, but they're on my radar."

In Las Vegas, the spotlight is squarely on Pete Carroll, who returned from retirement to lead the Raiders this season. The results have been rough. Las Vegas sits at 2-14, the worst record in the league, despite Carroll being hired to bring stability to the organization.

The situation deteriorated further last week when star pass rusher Maxx Crosby left the team facility after being informed he would be placed on injured reserve. Days later, the Raiders were routed 34-10 by the Giants, a loss that pushed them closer to the top pick in next year's draft.

NFL insider Tony Pauline has reported that multiple sources believe Carroll will be dismissed following Las Vegas' Week 18 game against the Chiefs. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport also suggested that landing the No. 1 overall pick could accelerate a leadership change.

"This can change an organization," Rapoport said. "It took a lot to get here. We'll see if Pete Carroll's there for it. I doubt it, but we'll see."

In Cleveland, uncertainty surrounds Kevin Stefanski, despite a long-term extension following an 11-6 season in 2023. Over six seasons, Stefanski is 44-56 with one playoff win. The Browns have managed just seven total victories over the past two years.

Cleveland is 4-12 after a Week 17 upset of Pittsburgh, but Stefanski's future remains murky. He sidestepped questions earlier this week, saying his focus was on beating Cincinnati in the finale while expressing gratitude for the job.

"My sole focus is on this game versus Cincinnati," Stefanski told reporters. "But I also would tell you I'm privileged to have this job."

According to Fowler, one potential name to watch if Cleveland does make a move is Mike McDaniel, currently with the Miami Dolphins.
