Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams appears to have escaped a devastating injury after a frightening scene Sunday.

Williams was carted from the field during the fourth quarter of Chicago's 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings after suffering a non-contact injury while scrambling. He covered his head with a towel as he left, creating concern that the Bears could be without their franchise quarterback for an extended period.
The follow-up news was far more encouraging. Tom Pelissero of The Ringer reported Monday that testing revealed no major injury and that Williams has not been ruled out for the Bears' Week 3 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on "Monday Night Football."
Chicago coach Ben Johnson offered a more cautious timeline during an appearance on ESPN 1000.
"It sounds like it's gonna be a week-to-week deal," Johnson said. "Will likely miss time."
Williams reportedly suffered a hamstring strain rather than the serious knee injury initially feared. He completed 15 of 26 passes for 138 yards and an interception before leaving Sunday's game, while adding 42 rushing yards.
If Williams cannot play against Philadelphia, Tyson Bagent is expected to start. The former undrafted quarterback has made four career starts, all during his 2023 NFL rookie season.
Williams' status remains uncertain, but the Bears so far have avoided a season-altering disaster.
