Chiefs' Chris Jones Says He Will Pay $1.5 Million To Set Convicted Cafeteria Worker Thief Free From Prison

Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones is attempting to help release a convicted chicken wing thief from prison, by lending a hand in paying back the $1.5 million in stolen goods.

Reportedly, 68-year-old Vera Liddell, a cafeteria worker who was working at a Chicago elementary school for nearly a decade, was running a scheme where she stole over 11k cases of chicken wings.

Since Liddell was the food service director at Harvey School District 152, she was in charge of ordering the food. Over the course of 19 months (July 2020-February 2022), she was able to get away with taking up to $1.5 million worth of chicken, which eventually led to the district realizing the school system's spending was way too high.

This was discovered during a routine audit, as the school business manager found food costs were $300,000 over budget even though there were still months left in the school year, per WGN.

Apparently, these chicken wings were supposed to be a part of a city funded meal kit program to send out to the students when the schools were closed during the pandemic. However, the kids didn't receive any of it, because of Liddell's planned heist which entailed her using a school cargo van to pick up the food and take it somewhere else.

In view of this, after winning back-to-back Super Bowls, Jones signed a five-year, $158.75 million deal ($101 million in guaranteed), so presumably he thought all this extra money could be put to good use by paying back Liddell's debts to the school district, if it meant she could be free from prison.

However, being that is not how the court system works, Liddell will have to serve out her nine-year sentence, after being charged with and pleading guilty to theft and operating a criminal enterprise.
