Owner Clark Hunt said the door is wide open for Kelce to return for a 14th NFL season, adding the team is giving the star tight end time and space to decide what he wants to do next.
Hunt made it clear he still believes Kelce can play at a high level.
He pointed out that Kelce remained a key offensive leader and produced more than 800 receiving yards this season, even if he is no longer quite at his peak from four or five years ago.
The Chiefs, Hunt said, are trying to be respectful as Kelce weighs football against a busy personal offseason that includes wedding plans following his engagement to Taylor Swift.
Kelce finished the year with 851 yards and five touchdowns, an uptick from his 2024 production. But Kansas City as a whole took a step back, finishing 6-11 and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014.
The offseason has already brought change. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is rehabbing a torn ACL with hopes of returning by Week One of 2026. The Chiefs also welcomed Eric Bieniemy back to the organization, a reunion Kelce publicly celebrated on his New Heights podcast, fueling more speculation about his future.
