Chiefs Parade Shooting: What We Know as Super Bowl Parade Turns Deadly

The end of the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade turned dark when a shooting reportedly killed one person and injured many more.

One person was killed and nine were injured at the end of the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade when shots were fired Wednesday, according to ESPN. Three of the victims were in critical condition, while five were in serious condition and one sustained non-life threatening injuries, ABC News reported.

The shots were fired Wednesday afternoon near Union Station in Kansas City, where the parade was held. Kansas City Police confirmed on X that two armed people were taken into custody for investigation. The police department also requested witnesses to the shooting to head to a specific location at Pershing Road and Main Street.

One user on X shared the moment on Channel 41 that broadcasters began to realize something was wrong at the parade:

Multiple Chiefs players chimed on X, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

"Praying for Kansas City..." he wrote.

Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill offered prayers on X.

"Please join me in prayer for all the victims in this heinous act. Pray that doctors & first responders would have steady hands & that all would experience full healing," he wrote.

FS1's Nick Wright, who was at the parade, said he was "absolutely heartbroken for everyone that this happened."

The shooting was a dark end to the Chiefs' celebration of their win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

The Kansas City Police Department scheduled a press conference at 3:30 p.m. CT. We'll update this story as more info becomes available.
