Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has retained counsel after a crash involving a car registered to him, as relayed by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
Police said the crash involved six vehicles and was the result of a street race.
Whoever was driving Rice's vehicle left the scene of the accident, police added. It's not been determined if the individual driving Rice's car was Rice himself.
"That creates potentially significant consequences under Texas law. So it's smart for Rice to retain counsel — especially if he was driving the car at the time of the crash," Florio wrote.
Per reports, the crash happened in Dallas after a Corvette and Lamborghini were racing in the far left lane. Both drivers reportedly lost control — and police said the Lamborghini went onto the shoulder, hit the center median wall and caused four other vehicles to collide.
Rice is suspected of being the driver of the Corvette. The driver of the Lamborghini also fled the scene, police said.
So far, it's not known if Rice or any other drivers were charged.
"The drivers of the Corvette and Lamborghini fled the scene without providing any information or checking if anyone involved needed medical attention," Yahoo Sports wrote. "Police do not know whether Rice was actually involved in the crash, though he is suspected to be the driver of the Corvette."
Rice, 23, is coming off a strong rookie season during the Chiefs' run to the Super Bowl title., catching 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns. He then set a rookie record with 26 receptions during the playoffs.
"TMZ has posted photos of a group leaving the scene. Video of the men walking away from the crash also has surfaced," Florio wrote. "Even if Rice was in the group, the key question is whether he was behind the wheel."
