Chiefs tried to get Jets RB Breece Hall ahead of trade deadline, to no avail

Breece Hall was not off limits this week. Just not cheap enough for Kansas City.

Per Nate Taylor of ESPN, the Chiefs tried to pry the Jets running back away before Tuesday's deadline. Kansas City offered a 2026 fourth-rounder. New York countered by asking for a third. That was the gap. Neither side budged. So Hall stayed right where he was.

Hall was said to be open to a move after the Jets shipped out Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams. But the Chiefs did not view eight games and a playoff run as enough value to justify a third. They reportedly valued four years of contractual control on a third-round pick more than Hall's immediate upside.

Kansas City is beat up in the backfield. Isiah Pacheco is dealing with an MCL sprain. Taylor added that the team believes Pacheco can return after the Week 10 bye.

In the meantime, Kansas City has leaned on Kareem Hunt and Brashard Smith. Elijah Mitchell is on the active roster. Clyde Edwards-Helaire remains on the practice squad as depth.

Hall has been one of the few bright spots for New York. He is averaging 5.0 yards per carry with 581 rushing yards and two scores. He also has 21 receptions for 178 yards.

The Jets moved multiple big pieces this week. Hall was almost another one.

Just not quite.
