ESPN reporter Chris Mortensen isn't on the best of terms with much of New England, nor the Patriots.
He erroneously reported a PSI issue with the Patriots' footballs in the AFC Championship, and refused to clarify his initial tweet nor make changes to his story. Months later he was diagnosed with Stage IV throat cancer and immediately underwent treatment. He's in the recovery stage, and previously released a statement saying his cancer has been "virtually reduced to zero detection," per Sporting News.
Thanks to a breakdown from the Ringer, despite undergoing treatment for cancer, Mortensen admitted Patriots fans were quite awful, per The Ringer:
Mort's cool began to melt only when he started to get a number of death threats. "What bothered me is we're in an era where if your wife goes onto social media, she basically reads that they want you to die," Mort said. "Even after I got cancer, I got some death wishes."
Being frustrated with reporting or some slight against your team is one thing. Sending out death threats, and then sending out more death wishes after someone gets cancer is just about the lowest you can go.
