Christian McCaffrey Announced As New Cover Of Madden 25

EA Sports has announced that Christian McCaffrey will officially be named as the Madden 25 cover athlete.

The 2023 Offensive Player of the Year has certainly earned this honor after he rushed for a career-high 1,459 yards on 272 carries (5.4 yards per carry) during last season, in addition to scoring a career-best 21 total touchdowns (14 rush; 7 rec).

This will be the first time that a running back has graced the cover of the popular NFL video game, since Madden 12 (Peyton Hillis).

In a released statement, the video game developer EA Sports gave the following reason behind the decision:

"McCaffrey led San Francisco to Super Bowl LVIII last season and further cemented himself as one of the league's most consistent and explosive players in the process."

The San Francisco 49ers running back, who also just recently signed a two-year $38 million dollar contract extension, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity.

"To be on the cover of Madden NFL is a career achievement and an honor I share with all of my teammates, coaches and 49er Faithful who have helped make it possible," McCaffrey said in a statement. I'm pumped to get back on the field this year to give Madden players more reasons to keep scoring touchdowns with me in Madden NFL 25."

According to Madden's senior production director, Mike Mahar, McCaffrey was one of the most used running backs in Madden 24.

"Our players love his dynamic abilities in Madden, scoring more than 450 million touchdowns with him last year and making him the most popular running back in Madden NFL 24. Christian's electrifying, dynamic and physical play style perfectly represents the gameplay innovations we're bringing to Madden NFL 25 and made him the perfect fit for this year's cover."

The overalls and ratings of the players and teams will be announced later, as the upcoming release date for Madden 25 is scheduled for August 16, 2024.
