On Friday, the Buffalo Bills announced that they had traded former No. 4 overall pick Sammy Watkins to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for cornerback E.J. Gaines and a second round pick. The Rams will also receive a sixth-round selection in the trade.
The Bills also made another trade, sending corner Ronald Darby to Philadelphia in exchange for wide receiver Jordan Matthews.
Watkins has proven to be a talent player at wide receiver in Buffalo, but injuries have taken a bit of a toll on him over the past two seasons. Watkins also recently declined an option for a fifth season on his deal, meaning that he would be a free agent after this year anyways. In the trade, Buffalo will get something in return instead of losing Watkins outright to free agency.
Watkins was a former standout at Clemson before being taken with the fourth overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Watkins has 2,459 yards and 17 touchdowns over his three year career so far.
