Ever since the Cleveland Browns hired new head coach Hue Jackson two weeks ago, it was all but assumed that second year quarterback Johnny Manziel was basically done as Cleveland's quarterback. However the team's new VP of football operations Sashi Brown addressed the rumors, and made it sound as if there still is a legitimate future for Manziel in Cleveland after all — at least for now.
"I know a lot's been written about him. What we expect is Johnny to have a good offseason and be ready to go. We're not in any panic to make any decision one way or another on him," Brown said via ESPN. "He understands what's ahead of him and what he needs to do to have a career in this league and with the Browns."
Brown added that during Cleveland's final game of the regular season against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Jan. 3, the team had no idea where Manziel was, citing it was caught up in hiring a new coach and staff. The quarterback was on the NFL's concussion protocol for Sunday's game vs the Steelers. Brown added that the organization will sit down with Manziel "at the appropriate time" to discuss the issue.
"We don't know where Johnny was," Brown said. "I don't know where Johnny was the final game of the season."
So at least for now, it seems the Browns might want to keep Manziel around in Cleveland.
