The Indianapolis Colts are in a bit of a bind with quarterback Anthony Richardson. After Richardson asked to step off for a play during the Houston Texans game, Colts coach Shane Steichen hinted that the QB might see extended time on the bench in Week Nine and beyond.

Steichen didn't commit to Richardson starting against the Minnesota Vikings, saying the team is still "evaluating everything." It's the kind of comment that usually signals a potential change is on the way.
So far, Richardson has shown glimpses of his athletic talent, no doubt, but his numbers tell a different story. He's completed only 44.4 percent of his passes, with four touchdowns and seven interceptions in six starts. That's not exactly what you'd call a solid stat line, especially for a team trying to find consistency at the quarterback position.
And it's not just about the passing game. Richardson has already missed two games due to an oblique injury — something you really don't want in a player who's supposed to be your long-term answer under center.
Meanwhile, veteran Joe Flacco has stepped up when Richardson's been out, offering a steadier hand. Flacco did the same thing last season, guiding the Cleveland Browns to the NFL playoffs.
He's not flashy, but he's proven he can manage the game and take care of the ball. If Steichen is thinking long-term, giving Richardson a break might not be a bad call. A little time to watch from the sideline could help him see the game differently, reset, and come back stronger. For a young quarterback, sometimes less is more.
