According to an official statement from the team, the Indianapolis Colts are trading eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks. This deal is contingent on the guard passing his physical.
In terms of compensation, the Seahawks will send back a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick. This is significant because Nelson was set to become a free agent after the season.
The Colts could have been in line for a compensatory pick if he signed somewhere else, but sending him away via trade ensured that the team will have more picks moving forward.
The sixth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Nelson has been a key cog on the Colts' offensive line since his rookie season while blocking for Andrew Luck, Philip Rivers, and several other quarterbacks.
He has started all but three games during his career while earning eight consecutive Pro Bowl nods. He also earned First-Team All-Pro honors in each of his first three seasons.

This move to trade Nelson comes at a time when the Colts are struggling through the early stages of the 2026 season. The team has fallen to 2-5 while firing longtime general manager Chris Ballard. Making the playoffs will be a tough task at this point.
The expectation is that more trades will happen before the Nov. 10 trade deadline as the team prepares for the 2027 NFL Draft. Acquiring picks will be paramount, especially considering that the Colts sent next year's first-round pick to the Jets as part of a package to acquire cornerback Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner.
The Seahawks making the move to acquire Nelson will potentially benefit a team that has struggled on offense this season. The defending champion ranks 17th in the NFL with 113.7 rushing yards per game. It ranks 16th in passing with 229.6 yards per game.
