The Indianapolis Colts did not wait long to see if Philip Rivers still has it.

A Monday report suggested the former Pro Bowler would work out for Indianapolis on Tuesday. Instead, Rivers was already in the building. Multiple outlets say he threw for the team on Monday night and looked sharp, four years removed from his last NFL snap.
For the record, Rivers is 44 years old and hasn't played in the NFL since the Covid season of 202o.
There is no agreement yet, and the Colts are said to be weighing whether Rivers should be the next man up after Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending Achilles tear.
\Rookie Riley Leonard is the current replacement, but he is dealing with knee soreness that has created some doubt about his status for Week 15 against Seattle.
Brett Rypien is on the practice squad and is the only other healthy arm available. Anthony Richardson is not an option to return from injured reserve.
Rivers last played in 2020, which happened to be his lone season in Indianapolis. He went 11-5, completed 369 passes for 4,169 yards, threw 24 touchdowns and helped push the Colts into the playoffs. His final act was a 307-yard, two-touchdown effort in a tight postseason loss to Buffalo.
He opted for retirement after that. Or so we thought.
The Colts will decide soon whether that was the end of Rivers' career or simply the pause before an unlikely return.
