Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn confirmed Monday that quarterback Jayden Daniels is dealing with a knee injury that could keep him sidelined in Week 2.

Quinn told reporters Daniels underwent an MRI and has already begun the team's return-to-play process, but his status for Sunday's home game against the Raiders remains uncertain.
"He is truly day-to-day," Quinn said. "What does that mean for Sunday? I can't tell you that now. I'll have more to share on that when we get to Wednesday and practice."
The Commanders will evaluate Daniels' strength, mobility, and ability to change direction before making any decision. According to Quinn, the injury occurred Thursday night while Daniels was scrambling away from Green Bay star pass rusher Micah Parsons.
If Daniels cannot suit up, veteran Marcus Mariota will step in as Washington's starter. Mariota, 30, is a former No. 2 overall pick himself and brings dual-threat ability, though he has not been a full-time starter since his 2019 season in Tennessee.
Daniels' potential absence would be a major blow for Washington. The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner was selected No. 2 overall in last year's NFL Draft after a spectacular career split between Arizona State and LSU. He quickly justified the hype, putting together one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history. Daniels set multiple rookie quarterback records, guided the Commanders to their first NFC Championship Game appearance since 1991, and authored a signature moment with his game-winning "Hail Maryland" touchdown pass.
For now, though, the Commanders can only wait to see if their franchise quarterback is ready to go against Las Vegas.
