Wide receiver Corey Davis, the former No. 5 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft to the Tennessee Titans under contract with the New York Jets, has announced his retirement from the NFL at 28.

This news comes after Myles Jack, a soon-to-be 28-year-linebacker, announced his retirement.

The news of Davis' retirement comes as a bit of a surprise considering the promise the Jets are showing this season with quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the roster.

Since signing with the Jets before the 2021 season, Davis appeared in 22 games across two seasons. He never caught more than 34 passes in a year, had a high of 536 receiving yards last year, and had just six touchdowns over that span.
Looking at the depth chart, Davis was likely the No. 4 option behind Allen Lazard and Garrett Wilson out wide with Mecole Hardman in the slot.
Davis' best season in the NFL came in his last season with the Titans, where he caught 65 passes for 984 yards and five touchdowns in 14 games. Throughout his career, Davis, the 6-foot-3 receiver, battled numerous injuries, including ones to his shoulder, knee, turf toe, soft-tissue injuries, and a concussion last season.
If this is the end of the line for the Western Michigan product, Davis ends his career with 273 receptions, 3,879 receiving yards, and 18 touchdowns over six seasons. He finished his career at Western Michigan with the all-time career receiving yards record of 5,278.

Now, the Jets head into the 2023-24 with one less weapon at Rodgers' disposal.
