The Cowboys and Eagles are working out this QB as a potential backup plan

This probably isn't the best plan for a Plan B.

Once touted as a potential No. 1 overall pick, Christian Hackenberg has completely tanked down draft boards over the past two seasons. That doesn't mean he still won't get work in the NFL, though, as the former Penn State quarterback is still getting workouts from teams, including two very big ones: the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to NFL.com, Hackenberg worked out for the Cowboys on Wednesday, and will workout with the Philadelphia Eagles next week.

Both teams have issues at the quarterback position, as Tony Romo's health is always a question for the Cowboys, and the Eagles might not be completely sold on Sam Bradford as the quarterback of the future.

Is Hackenberg the answer for either team? Well... probably not. The quarterback is expected to go in the later rounds of the draft, so he is not a guy who is going to be getting playing time right away. However, the workouts, do show that teams have interest in Hackenberg as a potential backup, or as a project type of player.

Hackenberg spent three seasons at Penn State, gaining the starting position as a freshman. That freshman season was likely Hackenberg's best year, though, as his completion-percentage dropped from 59-percent to 53-percent between his freshman and junior years.
