According to an arrest report obtained by TMZ, Turpin was pulled over at 11:49 p.m. Saturday after police say he was driving 97 mph in a 70-mph zone. Officers say they observed an unholstered 9mm pistol "in plain view" on the back seat of Turpin's 2022 Dodge. A search of the vehicle then reportedly uncovered less than two ounces of marijuana in the center console.
Turpin was booked into a local jail on charges of unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of marijuana, both classified as misdemeanors. He posted bond and has since been released.
The 28-year-old has quickly become one of the league's most dynamic special teams weapons since joining the Cowboys in 2022 after a standout stint in the USFL. He was named to the Pro Bowl in each of the past two seasons and became the only NFL player last year with both a kickoff and punt return for touchdowns.
Turpin's offensive production grew in 2023 as well, finishing the season with 31 receptions for 420 yards and two touchdowns, including a 64-yard score. He averaged 13.5 yards per catch and set a career-high in all major receiving categories.
In March, Turpin signed a new three-year contract with Dallas worth up to $18 million. He went on to lead the NFL in kickoff return average (33.5 yards) under the league's revamped return format, including a 99-yard touchdown return against Washington—the second-best single-season average since the 1970 merger.
While Turpin's on-field star continues to rise, the Cowboys may now have to navigate the fallout from his off-field troubles as training camp approaches.
